Compulsory mediation?
11 January 2018In October 2017 the Civil Justice Council (CJC) published its interim report on the future role of alternative approaches to dispute resolution (ADR). The report makes various recommendations as well as inviting responses. It follows input from a working group tasked in January 2017 to examine uptake of ADR in civil justice. The primary purpose of the report is to find ways to encourage its use.

The Media Act 2024
06 June 2024The Media Act 2024 received Royal Assent after the parliamentary “wash-up” at the end of May 2024. Among other things, it is aimed at levelling the playing field between linear and streamed content by bringing the streamers under new Ofcom rules. It followed a White Paper on media regulation and a draft Media Bill, which was subject to consultation.

Coronavirus Act 2020 – employment law measures
26 March 2020The Coronavirus Act 2020, which has now been enacted, introduces a new form of unpaid statutory leave for volunteers along with powers to establish a compensation scheme. It also makes changes to statutory sick pay (SSP) rules and indicates that the new job retention scheme for employers will be implemented by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Meaning of ‘endeavours’
29 May 2024Contracts often include an obligation for a party to use ‘best endeavours’, ‘reasonable endeavours’ or ‘all reasonable endeavours’, or other variations of the same, to achieve a defined objective. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish what different drafting actually means practice. We provide guidance on how to interpret endeavours clauses below.
