Carers become eligible for Skilled Worker sponsorship
27 January 2022From 15 February 2022, care workers and home carers will be recognised on the Skilled Worker shortage occupation list. They will also become eligible to apply for the Health and Care Worker visa sub-category of the route.

The new Global Business Mobility Routes
24 March 2022New Immigration Rules have recently been laid in Parliament, setting out the details of the Global Business Mobility routes. These replace the existing Intra-Company Transfer routes, the Representative of an Overseas Business provisions for sole representatives and the contractual service provider element of the International Agreement route. New provisions are also introduced for secondees whose employer has a high value contract or investment in the UK.

Domestic abuse leave introduced in Northern Ireland
30 March 2022The Northern Ireland Assembly has passed legislation that will entitle victims of domestic abuse to 10 days’ paid leave each leave year. The law was passed in the Assembly’s final week of sitting before the forthcoming Assembly elections in May. The commencement date of the new right remains to be confirmed.

Holiday pay for part-year workers should not be pro-rated
21 July 2022The Supreme Court has ruled that the paid holiday entitlement of part-year workers should not be pro-rated for the weeks they do not usually work. What employers should know about the new Scale-up visa
19 August 2022The new Scale-up route launches on 22 August 2022. Unusual features of the route include that sponsorship is available only to hyper-growth businesses, and that after the first six months, Scale-up visas cease to be sponsored. Migration Advisory Committee to review Skilled Worker shortage occupation list
16 September 2022On 24 August 2022 the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) was commissioned to review the shortage occupation list (SOL) for sponsoring skilled workers. The MAC is expected to make a call for evidence to employers and other stakeholders over the coming months, with their recommendations due to be incorporated into Immigration Rules sometime from Autumn 2023.
