LONDON – A team from City law firm Lewis Silkin will be putting their endurance to the test when they take on the 24 Peaks Challenge this September to raise much-needed funds for the firm’s chosen charity, The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals. The Charity is especially dear to the firm following the loss of James Levy last year, a sadly missed colleague and friend who was cared for at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
As the name suggests, The 24 Peaks Challenge is a two-day test of endurance set against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District which will see the team climbing 24 peaks in two days – an ascent of 4,000 metres. The firm aims to raise at least £25,000 and donations can be made via the event’s JustGiving page.
The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity makes a vital contribution to the work carried out at the hospitals, supporting projects that are ineligible for funding from the NHS, awarding grants for medical research, specialist equipment and other amenities to improve patient care. Harefield celebrates it centenary in 2015 and an exciting programme of new building works will be taking place throughout centenary year to expand and improve services for patents. The Royal Brompton’s current challenge is to raise £4.5 million to build a new ‘Hybrid Theatre’ which will combine complex imaging equipment in an environment where different surgical procedures which would normally take weeks or even months can take place at the same time on the same day.
The team comprises 32 individuals drawn from all the firm’s departments. Those taking part are Richard Berry, Danny Bugler, Michelle Cooper, Rebecca Craker, Shalina Crossley, Olivia Eardley, Daria Evdokimova, Simon Entwistle, Jo Evans, Ollie Fairhurst, Susie Fyvie, Len Goodrich, Nicholas Hadaway, Eliza Halling, Tom Heys, Alan Hunt, Susie Jarrold, Ian Jeffery, Paul Johnson, Sarah Lampard, Emma Langhorn, David Lawrence, Ned Lewis, Henry McKay, Sarah McWhinney, Natalie Parkinson, Sam Pennington, Louise Sargeant, Alice Sullivan, Tarun Tawakley, Rachel Ward and Kathryn Weaver.
Ian Jeffery, Lewis Silkin’s Managing Partner, commented:
“Having successfully completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in 2011, our people have decided to push themselves even further and go for 24 Peaks! We are very proud of everyone involved for giving up their time in this way to support The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity. James was a unique and unforgettable personality within the firm, and it is an honour to take part in an exciting challenge which will raise much needed funds for the charity. There will be a number of fundraising activities across all four of our offices in the run-up to the Challenge itself so everyone will be involved in some way.”
