The ‘on-demand’ or so-called ‘gig economy’ would appear to provide workers with greater control and flexibility to choose when and how to work while connecting employers with available skilled labour when they need it. But what hidden dangers lie in an on-demand workforce?
Recent legal challenges in China and elsewhere across APAC have highlighted potential conflicts between the gig economy and existing legal frameworks applying to, for example, dispatch workers and independent contractors. Misclassifying workers can result in significant costs to business.
In two seminars held in Hong Kong and Seoul, our Ius Laboris panel will consider the employment law and immigration implications across APAC of the on-demand workforce while working through the practical case studies. The panel will include speakers from China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and (for the Hong Kong seminar) Thailand. We will also provide a round-up of recent developments.
The session will be on 13 December and be held at The Executive Centre, Level 3, Three Pacific Place, 1 Queen's Road East, Admirality running from 8am - 9.30am (registration at 7.30am).
If you have a colleague that would like to attend, or you have any questions please contact Rob Johnson.
