Mary is a member of Lewis Silkin’s Data, Privacy & Cyber team. Mary advises on a wide range of legal, commercial and regulatory issues arising out of data privacy, cybersecurity and technology related regulation.

Mary has over 22 years of experience in the tech law field, having worked in the TMT department of the international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, as a senior associate at a leading Belfast commercial law firm, as a full-time Senior Law Lecturer at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University, Belfast and as in-house counsel for a FTSE 500 IT company specialising in managed services.

Mary specialises in transactional and advisory work in the tech sector. Her vibrant and varied tech practice has enabled her to develop significant tech, data and cybersecurity expertise, which has led to her organic move to our Data, Privacy & Cyber team. She regularly advises a wide range of tech clients (from small start-ups to large international IT services providers) on all aspects of their data privacy and cybersecurity strategies and compliance, from product inception onwards. Mary advises international organisations on their international GDPR compliance programmes, external and internal international data transfers, intra-group data sharing agreements. Mary has also developed significant cyber expertise and has advised global clients on their current and future cybersecurity related compliance, policies and broader strategies. As a passionate tech/data/cyber lawyer, she advises on all aspects of tech regulation including the GDPR, NIS1 and the wider reaching NIS2, the DSA, the DMA, the P2B Regulation, the EU AI Regulation/UK AI policy and UK/EU e-commerce laws. She has also assisted international and UK clients to Brexit-proof their data privacy practices and policies.
