“Eight drivers of change – 2022 and beyond” (By James Davies, Lewis Silkin LLP)

22 November 2022

Last year James Davies published a report the Eight Drivers of Change – the future of work for the Future of Work Hub. It identified eight key drivers of change in society as a whole, and in the workplace in particular. It considered how these interconnected drivers were accelerating change at an unprecedented scale and speed and how these changes were influencing the what, where, from where, when, how, how much/many, who and why of work.

A year later, the world looks a considerably darker, more volatile and more uncertain place. The consequence of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have been severe around the World. Energy and commodities have seen prices soaring, fuelling inflation unseen in most economies for forty years. A cost of living crisis is looming large. Recession looks inevitable in many countries.

In this new Report for the Future of Work Hub, ‘Eight Drivers of Change - 2022 & beyond’, James considers how emerging trends are evolving to shape the world of work and revisits his predictions for the future. As the working landscape continues to shift rapidly in response to world events, this report comes at a critical time for businesses assessing how to prepare for the future of work. It gives a comprehensive assessment of the current situation, alongside insightful perspectives on the journey ahead, and considers topical issues including:

  • What is driving the skills shortage and how to overcome it
  • How the cost of living crisis is impacting the world of work
  • How employee demands are evolving
  • The increasing importance employees are putting on responsible brands
  • The increasing division between the ‘in person’ workforce and the hybrid (or remote) workforce
  • The increasing geographical fragmentation of the workforce

This comprehensive Report brings together leading knowledge, data and insights from a variety of sources and is a timely assessment of the key issues and challenges of the day that will impact on the world of work for years to come.
