About

I am an experienced Asia employment lawyer specialising in mainland China matters. I have spent over 20 years working for international law firms in Shanghai after starting my career in London. I am happy to have joined the dynamic Lewis Silkin team in mid-2023.

I focus on helping multinational companies to navigate a wide range of employment and people-related issues in mainland China. I also work on cross-border and multi-jurisdictional projects with a nexus to Hong Kong and the wider Asian region.

My work encompasses a broad array of sectors, including banking and finance, technology, retail, media and professional services.

Employment

  • Drafting and advising on the full range of employment documentation, including contracts, confidentiality and non-compete agreements, and handbooks and policies
  • Developing HR policies and processes and structuring remuneration, bonus and incentive arrangements
  • Handling employee issues in the context of M&A activity, including due diligence and transfer of employees
  • Advising on company restructurings, closures and intra-group transfers
  • Coordinating multi-jurisdiction employment reviews and audits across the APAC region

Employee exits, restrictive covenants & investigations

  • Advising on all aspects of employee exits and termination, including calculating termination payments and entitlements, and drafting and negotiating mutual termination and settlement agreements
  • Providing guidance on complex issues relating to restrictive covenants and other post-termination obligations, including non-compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality
  • Handling and advising on whistleblower scenarios and investigations relating to employee misconduct, anti-corruption, discrimination and sexual harassment
  • Assisting with a variety of data privacy and data transfer issues relating to employment relationships
