Formerly a partner in Lewis Silkin’s real estate practice group, I have over 15 years’ experience of advising on commercial property transactions of all shapes and sizes, including, in particular, investment acquisitions/disposals and landlord and tenant related matters, though latterly with a focus on real estate finance and refinancing transactions.
Examples of projects with which I have been involved include advising on structure and preparing finance documentation for a secured peer-to-peer lending exchange; acting for an offshore investor on the real estate elements of the disposal of an S.P.V. with significant property investments; acting on the refinancing of a portfolio of prestigious office buildings in central London; and advising a significant international company taking a lease of four floors of a landmark office building as its first step to establishing a presence in Europe.
My current role combines involvement in non-contentious (predominately transactional) commercial real estate matters with work as a real estate practice development lawyer. This element of my role involves, in particular, considering the implications of legal developments to help ensure that our real estate lawyers are up to date and reviewing and contributing to our bank of precedent documents.
Real Estate
As a member of Lewis Silkin’s real estate practice group, I have experience advising on a broad range of transactional non-contentious commercial real estate matters, including investment acquisitions and disposals; active asset management after acquisition; and landlord and tenant related issues (advising both landlords and tenants), including new lettings, lease renewals and diverse management matters.
I have focused in particular on real estate finance transactions, including advising lenders and borrowers on a range of commercial real estate finance issues.
Retail, Hospitality & Leisure
I have extensive experience advising clients in the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure sector on real estate issues. I have also regularly acted on behalf of landlords with buildings let, or to be let, to tenants within this sector.
Some examples of work include advising a well known restaurant chain on its pre-lets of premises on new developments, as well as on its new lettings, lease renewals and non-contentious management matters; acting for owners of commercial or mixed-use premises on new lettings to occupiers for retail use; advising an overseas investor on its pre-let and letting (with ancillary management issues) to a hotel chain, and acting for a hotel chain on the refinancing of its extensive portfolio of UK properties.
