I joined Lewis Silkin as a partner in 2000, and am a member of each of the firm’s Corporate and Digital, Commerce & Creative practice groups, as well as our Media & Entertainment and Retail, Hospitality & Leisure sector focus groups, reflecting the broad scope of my practice.
Having spent the early years of my career as a corporate finance lawyer, I have in the subsequent years expanded my practice to advise on all manner of non-contentious commercial and IP issues, while continuing to advise on M&A, fundraising, joint ventures (both in the UK and overseas) and other corporate matters.
Although I work with clients in various industries, the majority of the clients I work with are in media, marketing services, leisure or retail. Away from the office, I will generally either be found cheering on the Wales rugby team or doing things with my family.
Media & Entertainment
While working with clients in a number of industries, I have worked with clients in the publishing industry (primarily the sector which used to be referred to as the magazine industry) throughout my career. I work closely with both the PPA and the AOP, and I am a member of the AOP’s Advisory Board.
I have over the years bought or sold countless media or events businesses and advised on any number of joint ventures involving media or events businesses, while at the same time advising media business clients regularly on distribution, licensing (including franchising), outsourcing and other commercial arrangements, and more recently in relation to media buying/selling, including programmatic inventory trading and the use of private marketplace platforms.
Retail, Hospitality & Leisure
I also work extensively with clients in this sector, predominantly in relation to franchising and cross border joint ventures, with a particular focus on the Middle East.
