I am a Managing Associate in Lewis Silkin's Data, Privacy & Cyber group, and I also work alongside our Digital, Commerce & Creative team.

I advise on a range of data protection and commercial matters, although I have a particular specialism in helping advertisers, agencies, ad-tech service providers and publishers navigate privacy issues in respect of online advertising (including programmatic and custom audience advertising) and direct marketing activities, advising on complex data sharing arrangements, and data-rich commercial contracts.

My work is sector agnostic, but I frequently advise clients in the advertising & marketing, retail, hospitality and leisure, and technology sectors.

I am an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional (Europe) and frequently deliver training and seminars to clients on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) / Data Protection Act 2018 and the ePrivacy Directive / Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).

Experience

Data, privacy & cyber

  • Advising a UK-based publisher and online media company on their strategy and its implementation of a 'consent or pay' cookie banner, in the wake of potential enforcement action from the ICO
  • Providing ad-hoc commercial and privacy support to an SSP, including on a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) for the SSP's new audience targeting solution
  • Project managing the update of customer and vendor agreements to meet new international transfer (SCC) requirements, and drafted transfer impact assessments (TIAs) for a full-stack ad-tech vendor
  • Advising a global fast-food chain on its use of custom audience advertising and its marketing consent strategy
  • Advising an education platform on a personal data breach and report to the ICO in relation to the suspected misuse of customer credit card information by a former employee

Commercial

  • Advising an advertising agency on a novel commercial agreement with a supply side platform (SSP), to enable the agency to sell (and, more traditionally, buy) inventory via the SSP's platform
  • Drafting and negotiating a data licence for an advertising agency for TV 'attention data' supplied by an advertising measurement vendor, as well as a related collaboration agreement with a DSP
  • Negotiating on behalf of a representative body for players / athletes on the commercial exploitation and use of player data by a global governing sport body
  • Drafting and negotiating the privacy aspects of various media buying agreements for agencies and advertisers
  • Representing a creative agency in respect of various master services agreements and services orders for advertising services to pharmaceutical clients
