I am now a consultant for the firm, having been a commercial real estate lawyer at Lewis Silkin for 40 years, handling the real estate and development requirements of many of the firm’s major clients.
Much of my work has involved mixed use development of both brownfield and greenfield sites and over the years I have led teams of our excellent real estate, construction and planning lawyers handling a range of projects from significant inner city regeneration developments to corporate real estate restructuring exercises. I have also had many years' experience in advising on the town and country planning aspects of the projects on which I have been instructed which is hardly surprising I suppose being one of the successor partners to the architect of Britain’s modern planning system, the founding father of the firm, Lewis Silkin.
Real Estate
With 40 years of experience in the real estate sector I have developed a pretty thorough level of expertise in the creation, assembly and disposition of interests in land. My specific area of practice typically involves supporting and helping to guide clients through major development projects, from advice at the outset of the project, liaising with architects, planners, surveyors and tax advisers in seeking to structure the project in the most effective and efficient way - through to handling specific areas which require careful documentation – as well as leading and managing teams of our excellent lawyers (who may be in our real estate, construction, corporate, tax or planning teams) each handling bespoke areas of the project.
It’s axiomatic that a successful project requires a trusting relationship between client and legal adviser but having led many such projects over the years I hope that I have been able to demonstrate such successful trusted leadership.
Retail, Hospitality & Leisure
Over the years I’ve had experience in handling the acquisition and disposal of football stadia, hotels and leisure facilities as well as dealing on both the landlord and tenant sides of transactions for anchor tenants in major retail centres – everything from major shopping centres to prestige central London retail shops.
