For those hoping for a slightly quieter year in the world of data protection, the new year has already gone off with a bang and regulators are now turning their line of fire to personalised advertising.

In particular, the Irish Data Protection Commission has issued eye-watering fines against Meta Ireland, and the French data protection authority has fined Apple.
