Lewis Silkin launches Cube by Lewis Silkin to support the UK's startup community

22 September 2021

Lewis Silkin has announced the launch of Cube by Lewis Silkin, the firm’s new offering tailored to meet the needs of founders, startups, and investors and help them navigate the unique legal challenges of high-growth potential businesses face.

From its launch, Cube will offer startups, wherever they are in their growth cycle, a complimentary legal health check to identify and assess potential risks, challenges and opportunities.

Based on this health check clients will be provided bespoke support led by senior advisers, coupled with absolute transparency on pricing – giving startups the peace of mind they need alongside real depth of experience and pragmatic legal support across the business lifecycle, from establishing a new venture through fundraising and growth to eventual capitalisation and exit.

The latest addition to the range of innovative legal solutions developed by Lewis Silkin, Cube provides a single point of access tailored to start ups to the firm’s breadth of expertise - including fundraising and corporate transactions, employment, data protection, Intellectual Property and commercial and consumer contracts, Cube clients will become part of a community of likeminded businesses and individuals, gaining access to events, training opportunities and knowledge content covering issues ranging from how to take advantage of EIS/SEIS through to hiring an employee for the first time and protecting a company or brand name.

Cube is led by Lewis Silkin partner David Willbe, co-head of the firm’s full-service Technology practice, which advises some of the biggest names in the industry, from global tech companies headquartered in San Francisco through to some of the UK’s most innovative and rapidly growing startups. David specialises in corporate finance, advising clients throughout the business lifecycle from seed and angel investment rounds, to IPO and M&A activity. With deep experience in the technology sector, David has worked with clients including international fintech and SAAS businesses as well as investors with an interest in high-potential UK-based technology enterprises.

David Willbe, partner at Lewis Silkin, said:

“The UK startup scene is a real success story, one which has not been dampened by the pandemic, with investor appetite continuing to grow and the government throwing its weight behind high-potential and technology-led businesses. We have purposefully developed Cube to give startups the access they need to the best that Lewis Silkin has to offer them, whether that’s the fundamentals when they’re just starting out or up to the minute advice on the latest legal developments for larger startups challenging the status quo, all delivered with transparency on price and a commitment to giving clear advice. It’s an exciting time to be working in the startup community, and we’re delighted to be playing our part in it.”

Marian Gazdik, Director at Startup Grind London commented:

“We have worked with Lewis Silkin for many years as core sponsors of our London chapter. We know well that one of the real headaches entrepreneurs face when they are looking to get a venture off the ground or achieve scale is understanding their regulatory obligations, how to make the law work for them and their business and what the legal pitfalls are when approaching a capital event or transaction. The London start-up community will no doubt warmly welcome the expertise being offered by CUBE and we look forward to continuing to work with David and the rest of the firm as we support our members and help them and their businesses to thrive.”
