Lewis Silkin Ireland signs Pro Bono Pledge
02 December 2020
Lewis Silkin Ireland is a founding signatory to Pro Bono Pledge Ireland, the first collaborative effort in Ireland to articulate the shared professional responsibility of lawyers to promote access to justice and provide pro bono legal assistance to those in need. The Pledge sets out the core values of such work to assist those who undertake it and their clients.
The pledge involves committing to a minimum aspirational target of 20 hours pro bono per lawyer per year.
The initiative has been developed by an independent grouping of law firms, barristers and in-house legal teams, with the Public Interest Law Alliance(PILA), part of legal rights group FLAC, co-ordinating the pledge.
Siobhra Rush, Head of Lewis Silkin Ireland explains why they’ve joined the Pledge: "Corporate social responsibility is an integral part of Lewis Silkin’s business strategy. We take our responsibilities for our people, and the communities where we live and work very seriously. As part of that we actively support and facilitate involvement in pro bono initiatives.
In the UK we are actively involved in many initiatives, so were delighted to extend this to Ireland in being a founding signatory of the Pro Bono Pledge here. We are proud to join so many other leading law firms and legal practitioners in committing to help people who we otherwise might not work with, in a meaningful way."
