Lewis Silkin has advised Headland, the London-based agency specialising in financial and corporate reputation, public affairs and campaigning, on securing a minority investment from LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group.

As an investment partner, LDC will enable Headland to further broaden and deepen its consultancy capabilities, driving the company’s ambitions to advise a range of clients on complex communications matters.

LDC is a leading private equity business which supports the growth of mid-market companies. Over the past 40 years, LDC has backed the ambitions of more than 650 entrepreneur leading businesses from all sectors and regions of the British economy.

Headland has grown substantially since 2012. The business supported its clients through the pandemic in 2020 and increased revenues by 20%. Today, the company employs 117 people and its clients include Accenture, ASOS, Danone, eBay, Future, Just Eat Takeaway.com, PepsiCo, Pret, Saga, Three UK, TikTok, UBS, Versus Arthritis and Watches of Switzerland.

Dan Mines, Headland Managing Partner, said:

“Ours was a complex transaction and I feel so fortunate that Jo led us all the way. Along with her fantastic wider team, Lewis Silkin was every inch up to its reputation as a specialist in our sector, and they pulled off the tricky job of simplifying the dense and complicated stuff. They were also great fun and wonderfully normal to work with, which is so important when you consider how much time you need to spend together.”

The Lewis Silkin team was led by Corporate partner Jo Evans, with support from Corporate Tax partner Matthew Rowbotham, Corporate Senior Associate Sadiq Tajbhai, Corporate Associate Joe Lythgoe, Employment partner Richard Moore and Real Estate partner Emily Meredith-Hardy.

Commenting on the deal, Jo Evans said:

“It was an absolute pleasure for the Lewis Silkin team to work with Dan Mines and Chris Salt at Headland and help them navigate Headland through this transaction and into the next exciting phase of growth and development with the investment from LDC.”
