“DCC” stands for Digital, Commerce and Creative, and it is the name for the commercial team at Lewis Silkin. The team has particular expertise in the advertising, media, technology, entertainment and sport sector.
The team advises clients on a range of issues, from general “bread and butter” commercial agreements such as sale of goods and services, to IP heavy deals involving sponsorship and branded content, and work that is specific to the advertising industry such as media buying agreements and advising on advertising regulation.
Types of Trainee tasks
A Trainee will get involved in a range of tasks in a DCC seat. Some typical tasks include:
- Proof reading contracts (such as supply agreements, master services agreements and statements of work, client agency agreements)
- Amending and drafting clauses and contracts
- Reviewing adverts to ensure that they are compliant with advertising regulation
- Legal research
- Attending client calls
Why should I choose a seat in DCC?
The work that a Trainee can get involved in is extremely varied and you’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients from different sectors. One day you could be negotiating a deal for the launch of a new podcast, and the next day you could be helping to review fashion industry contracts. You might also be able to get involved in negotiating more complex contracts in the interactive entertaining or tech industry.
A seat in DCC will provide you with strong drafting skills, which are essential for any type of Lawyer. It will also give you an understanding of how businesses are operating in our current technological landscape, as we are constantly advising on cutting edge developments such as AI and the metaverse.
The team have a particular strength in the creative sectors, so if you love all things fashion, music, media and advertising related, then this could be the seat for you.
What skills do I need?
A seat in DCC, like most other areas of law, will require strong attention to detail. Contracts can be lengthy and complicated, and they will often involve a line-by-line review to ensure that there are no errors. You will also need to be commercially minded and be able to understand the wider context of your drafting or advice to ensure that it serves the intended purpose for the client.
Highlights of the seat
The best part about the seat is you will be able to work on matters that you are personally passionate about – from music, fashion, sports and advertising and marketing. One of our Trainees was even able to attend the British Fashion Awards! There really is something for everyone in a seat in DCC.
