In our latest session for HR professionals and in-house legal counsel, we will be discussing the main Hong Kong employment law, data privacy and employment-related tax updates from the first half of 2020.

Following our Breakfast Club in April which focused on implementing redundancies and handling the Covid-19 pandemic, this session will further explore relevant issues that employers may want to consider going into the second half of the year.

It has been an interesting first half of 2020, as we have worked through various waves of coronavirus and related social distancing rules, which have impacted on the workplace and economy. On 30 June 2020, we also saw the coming into force of the National Security Law, and now businesses have to work out how that may affect their talent, data privacy, immigration/emigration and other workplace matters. In addition, there have been changes to the anti-discrimination laws, the law extending maternity leave to 14 weeks has been passed, various tax exemptions have been implemented, the Black Lives Matter campaign has made companies think about their diversity monitoring and policies, the first tranche of the Employment Support Scheme has started to pay out and the UK government has announced a BNO visa scheme. We will guide you through all of these changes and more.

We will be answering frequently asked questions by our clients such as: What policies should we have in place when asking employees to work from home/return to the office? How will the expanded anti-discrimination laws affect employers? Are we eligible for the second tranche of the ESS? What impact might the National Security Law have on the workplace?

There will also be a live Q&A session at the end of this online roundtable discussion.
