Social impact

We are driven to make a difference to our clients, our people and our communities. Our social impact work is about empowering people and improving lives, with a strong focus on raising aspirations and improving outcomes for young people.

We seek to achieve this by drawing on all our skills and capabilities, investing time and resources in a range of social mobility and skilled volunteering initiatives and our firm charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Social mobility

LS Mentoring Scheme

In autumn 2020 we launched the LS mentoring scheme with Ark Globe Academy, our partner school in Southwark. Over the course of ten sessions, mentors work with their mentees to help them build confidence, develop employability skills and prepare for their next steps after leaving school.

PRIME work experience

As part of our PRIME commitment, we offer work experience placements for students from less privileged backgrounds who might otherwise not have the opportunity to access careers in the legal world. Since our commitment began, we have provided between four and six students with work experience every year.

Virtual careers days

Volunteers can participate in virtual careers workshops for schools and colleges across the UK. The aim of these events is to inform students about different career paths available to them and help them find out more about what it’s like to be a lawyer.

Charity partnerships

Since September 2023 our firmwide charity partner has been the Sutton Trust, who work to improve social mobility - one of our strategic priorities for Responsible Business activity. Partnering with the Sutton Trust will give us brilliant opportunities to help improve social mobility through volunteering, pro bono and fundraising activities.

One of the main reasons that we have chosen to partner with the Sutton Trust, is because we can make an impact beyond fundraising and because of the mutual goals of both parties. As part of our Partnership, we are excited to also be participating in the Sutton Trust’s flagship ‘Pathways to Law’ Programme, which provides support for accessing higher education, coaching and mentoring, and all-important work experience opportunities to students from socially diverse backgrounds.
