I am an employment solicitor and senior legal trainer, specialising in training on employment law.
I have been at Lewis Silkin since 2010 and was a senior associate in the team before transitioning to my legal training role. My experience as an employment solicitor, including time spent on secondment to two major investment banks, means that I am able to draw on the many practical issues that can arise in the workplace and how best to navigate them within the law.
I am also a member of our investigations team, having conducted several complex investigations for clients, and use this experience to train managers and HR in how to approach and handle sensitive investigations, including how to produce a good investigation report.
I deliver training for managers, HR professionals and in-house legal teams across a range of different industries, both in classroom and online. While the majority of training is based in the UK, I have regularly travelled abroad to deliver training to our international clients, working with our Ius Laboris colleagues where necessary.
Our manager courses focus in particular on discrimination and harassment issues, ensuring that organisations understand the steps they need to take to prevent discrimination. This may involve assisting with the introduction of a Guardians network by providing training for Guardians. I am also a Guardian within Lewis Silkin itself.
I also deliver courses covering disciplinaries and grievances, performance management and sickness absence. Where an organisation is regulated, the courses consider the view of the relevant regulator.
The training I do always takes into account the client’s particular needs, and uses both written and filmed case studies to ensure an interactive and lively session Crucially, it also allows participants to share their own experiences with one another, to ensure a consistent approach to the tricky issues that can arise day to day.
I co-present our Employment Law Academy with my fellow trainer Lucy Hendley, a course aimed at HR professionals and in-house counsel, to provide a comprehensive and practical grounding in employment law, as well as highlighting its many updates. Again, this course uses interactive case studies to ensure that all topics covered are considered in the most practical way possible.
