I have particular expertise in advising on senior executive employment or partnership documentation, and investment documents, in particular in the financial services industry, as well as advising on strategy and managing senior executive exits (either acting for the business, or the individual), advising on business restructures (in particular, relating to TUPE) and managing complex projects (such as the harmonisation of employee terms and conditions across a corporate group). Throughout my career, I have also advised on employee benefits, pensions and immigration matters and this, together with a period practising as a corporate lawyer, has given me extensive knowledge of the corporate and financial issues that drive many HR and business decisions.
I also have considerable experience of international employment matters and regularly work with clients to ensure a cost-effective, consistent and solution-driven approach that works in all the countries in which they operate. Having worked for twelve years in US law firms myself, I understand the requirements of a multi-national employer, in particular those with a US presence.
Some examples of my recent work include: advising clients on office closures and other large-scale redundancies; the transfer of services offshore; Tribunal claims variously involving allegations of discrimination, whistleblowing and unfair dismissal; designing and drafting secondment arrangements across group companies; managing employee long-term sickness issues; managing collective cross-border redundancies; and developing worldwide diversity and equality training programmes.
