I head up the Data & Privacy practice group and I am also a member of the Commercial practice group and the Brands & IP practice group.

Prior to qualifying as a lawyer I worked in industry for 9 years as an electronic engineer. I advise clients on data protection issues, technology transactions, commercial contracts and copyright and performer’s rights. I have an established focus on providing advice to clients in the technology, advertising, marketing and media sectors. I am recognised by the Legal 500 as an expert in data protection and by Chambers and Partners as an expert in ad tech.

Data & Privacy

I advise on all aspects of data protection but I have developed a particular specialism advising businesses on data protection compliance in the context of marketing and advertising. I regularly advise and provide data protection training to the key UK trade bodies in this sector including ISBA, IPA, AOP, IDM and the IPM. Examples of my general data protection practice include:

  • cross-border data transfers

  • the internet of things

  • intra-group data transfer arrangements

  • data breach and cyber security matters

  • devising strategies to deal with data protection regulators

  • implementing privacy audits and privacy impact assessments

I am recognised by the Legal 500 as an expert in data protection.

Commercial

I have an established focus on devising, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts advice to clients in the technology, advertising, marketing and media sectors where I have helped to develop and implement standard contract terms and approaches that have been widely adopted by these sectors. I am recognised by Chambers & Partners as an expert in adtech.

Examples of my commercial practice include drafting and negotiating:

  • client/agency agreements for use in the advertising sector

  • outsourcing agreements (including technology and business process outsourcing)

  • mobile app and website development agreements, software development and licensing agreements

  • cloud agreements, website terms and conditions and consumer terms

  • business terms and conditions for the purchasing and sale of goods and services and agency, distribution and collaboration agreements

Brands & IP

I provide a range of services to brand owners and their agencies including drafting the full range of marketing, advertising and media buying agreements in traditional and online media, as well as advising on the data protection aspects of marketing and advertising. I trained at a West End entertainment practice and have many years of experience advising clients on the creation and exploitation of copyright and performer’s rights in traditional and online media.  

Advertising & Marketing

I advise on the data protection and privacy aspects of marketing and advertising and have developed a particular specialism in the privacy aspects of online profiling and targeted advertising across platforms and devices. I regularly provide data protection training and advice to many of the key UK trade bodies in this sector including ISBA, IPA, AOP, IDM and the IPM and I am recognised by the Legal 500 as an expert in data protection.

My commercial practice includes drafting and negotiating the full range of marketing, advertising and media buying agreements. I have helped to develop and implement standard industry contract terms and approaches for the procurement and supply of digital marketing services including mobile app and website development and cloud based workflow and CRM systems. I am recognised by Chambers and Partners as an expert in ad tech.

Technology

Whilst I have a general commercial technology practice I have an established focus on providing advice to the advertising, marketing and media sectors. Examples of my technology practice include drafting and negotiating:

  • mobile app and website development agreements
  • software development and licensing agreements
  • contracts for the development of technology solutions using FOSS
  • cloud agreements, website terms and conditions and consumer terms
  • outsourcing agreements for a range of services (including technology and business process outsourcing)
