I am a partner in the Commercial and Corporate practice group, specialising in M&A and corporate transactional work.
I created the French Desk of Lewis Silkin which is dedicated to French clients. I am also a member of our Manufacturing & Engineering and Technology sector focus groups.
As a dual qualified French and English lawyer, I act for a wide variety of French companies across many industry sectors and I have wide experience of cross-border transactions between France and the UK. My clients include major French groups, generally quoted on Euronext. I am ranked as a foreign legal expert in M&A for French clients in Chambers Global. My key objective is to make UK transactions as easy for French clients as transactions they undertake in France and to avoid any legal or cultural misunderstandings which can occur when working cross border.
I advise French companies on acquisitions, joint ventures, investments, restructuring, corporate governance and all other aspects of corporate and company law. The French Desk team is flexible and adaptable to the needs of our French clients. Whether in relation to tailoring a due diligence report, providing an executive summary in French, preparing a presentation to the Board with the in-house legal team, we will always strive to make our clients’ life as easy as possible and alleviate their busy schedule.
The French Desk
The French Desk is a valuable partner to French companies wishing to develop their business in the UK. Even though my main area of expertise is in the field of corporate transactions, as Head of the French Desk, I am also the primary contact for French clients in a wide variety of other areas such as litigation, real estate, employment and commercial contracts where I coordinate the work of my specialist colleagues and make sure that the client has a full understanding of the advice given.
Having started my career in France at the Paris Bar and then as a litigator in the UK, I am fully aware of the pitfalls of English litigation for French companies and of the wide differences with French litigation. Therefore, with the assistance of our specialist litigation colleagues, I also accompany French clients in this field.
Manufacturing & Engineering
The key sectors in which my clients operate are manufacturing & engineering, technology, retail, recruitment and media & entertainment. Having completed many transactions in those sectors, I have acquired in-depth expertise of the areas which must be secured for the benefit of our clients. I also very much enjoy transactions in other specific sectors, particularly those which particularly showcase French expertise, such as the wine and fashion industries.
