I'm an Employment Partner with the Irish team and have worked as an employment lawyer for 16 years with three years working in-house.

I am a graduate of NUI Galway where I obtained a Bachelor of Corporate Law and a post-graduate Bachelor of Law. I hold a Diploma in Employment Law from the Law Society of Ireland and I am also qualified as a mediator with the Mediators' Institute of Ireland. I am qualified to practice in Ireland, England & Wales. I am also a certified Data Protection Practitioner with PDP in Ireland.

I work with domestic and multinational employers on managing employment law risk and solving workplace problems across a broad range of sectors including tech, retail, hospitality, media & entertainment, pharma and financial and professional services. I advise on both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters including all aspect of recruitment, employee management, disciplinary and dismissal issues, grievances, investigations, TUPE, a-typical working and employment litigation. I also advice on the employment aspects of commercial deals and have significant experience advising on workplace data and privacy matters. I pride myself on being commercial, practical and helpful and understand from my in-house role how important clear, quick and sensible advice is for clients in terms of the bigger picture. I don't sit on the fence. I am known for giving practical solutions to people issues and helping employers reduce employment law risks.

I also regularly provide in-house employment law and data protection training to clients and their teams. I sit on the Employment Law Association of Ireland where I previously held the roles of Chair and Vice Chair.

Experience

Employment litigation

  • Helping clients navigate the Workplace Relations Commission, Labour Courts and civil courts in all types of employment law claims including unfair dismissal, discrimination and protected disclosure claims
  • Negotiating settlements and severance agreements and supporting on dispute mediation

Employment

  • Helping clients ensure compliance with the ever changing employment law landscape in Ireland through practical solutions as well as supporting on workplace compliance inspections
  • Advising on and drafting complex contracts of employment and employment policies
  • Advising on commercial transactions and acquisitions to ensure employment law compliance and to minimise potential employment law risks and liabilities

Investigations

  • Working with clients to manage the grievance, investigation and disciplinary processes taking into account the potential litigation risks and how best to get to the desired outcome
  • Advising on the investigation of serious misconduct issues, protected disclosures, sexual harassment and bullying complaints
  • Carrying out external investigations into complex matters for employers where the matter can't be handled internally

Workplace data protection

  • Helping clients with workplace data issues such as employee monitoring, subject access requests, data protection issues that arise during workplace investigation processes and employment litigation
  • Managing employee data breaches and drafting workplace privacy notices and data protection impact statements
