I have over 12 years’ experience in media, advertising and intellectual property law.
My work includes advertising clearance and sales promotions; defending advertising complaints to the ASA; commercial contracts; sponsorship; talent agreements; dealing with digital, music and other creative content.
I have an unusual hybrid role; I advise clients and I’m also responsible for best practice, knowledge support and the training needs of our lawyers and clients.
I like to spend my free time travelling, kayaking, snowboarding, mooching around junk shops and doing lots of yoga. I’m a qualified yoga teacher and I even teach classes at Lewis Silkin.
Brands & Intellectual Property
On a typical day I may be dealing with ASA complaints, clearing a proposed script for a TV commercial and providing related risk management advice, advising on data protection issues, drafting/negotiating an IP licence, freelancer agreement, content agreement or services agreement. It’s often a mixed bag and that’s one of the reasons why I enjoy my work so much.
Some examples of recent work include a talent agreement with a supermodel, a deal for the provision of crowd-sourced material, defending an ASA complaint for a leading environmental charity, identification and transfer of rights in a computer game, settling a claim by a French artist for infringement of his rights, advice in relation to the sponsorship of Cannes Film Festival by an alcohol brand, clearing and reviewing related production agreements for a TV campaign for a global confectionary company.
I’m happy advising on a range of non-contentious/commercial work especially those which have an intellectual property aspect.
Advertising & Marketing
My clients are leading advertising agencies and their networks, brand owners, charities, design agencies, publishers and content owners.
I advise all industry sectors on their advertising and sales promotions across all media. In particular, I have extensive experience of working on campaigns for alcohol, food, mobile communications, cosmetics and motor industries and of advising on health/nutrition and environmental claims. I’m a member of the Food Law Group.
I spent 9 months seconded to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising providing frontline interim cover for their legal advice service to their 250+ member agencies. I also completed a virtual secondment maternity cover as commercial counsel for the DAS Group of Companies a division of Omnicom.
