I am a commercial digital media and technology lawyer providing specialist advice in relation to digital content, interactive entertainment, advertising and marketing, digital platforms, and innovative technologies - online, on mobile and in social media.

Before returning to private practice in 2012, I spent over 12 years as an in-house lawyer in internet and media companies, including as Head of Legal for Digital Media and Technology at BBC Worldwide Limited (the commercial arm of the BBC). I therefore bring a wealth of industry and client focused insight and understanding about how to execute “digital” activity effectively and commercially.

 

Commercial and Brands & IP

I am a member of the Commercial, and the Brands & IP practice groups with particular expertise in video, online publishing and new digital or social platforms. I deal with content creation, funding, licensing and distribution, along with consumer facing, advertising, marketing, retail and regulatory issues. My expertise really lies in where all these elements converge. As such, I help innovative businesses, whether they be in the media, retail, advertising / marketing or tech sectors, execute novel uses of content and technology to facilitate interactive, immersive and connected experiences.

Technology, Transactions & Outsourcing

I am a member of the Technology group with particular expertise in innovative technology solutions, and adtech / martech across all digital platforms. I advise on the development, distribution and integration of tech and software solutions on behalf of both suppliers and customers. I have an additional focus on early stage and growth companies, helping with business and deal structures, commercial terms and partnerships, IP development and protection and, along with my corporate colleagues, preparing businesses for investment and exit.

Media & Entertainment

I work with content creators, aggregators and platforms across the creative industries providing commercial advice and strategic direction. This includes assisting traditional media companies, brands and agencies as they continue to transition and optimise their businesses for the new digital ecosystem; new digital producers, curators and aggregators as they disrupt the market; as well as technology based innovators and platforms providing new solutions to the industry.

Retail, Hospitality & Leisure

I help retailers, brands and other sectors that do not have traditional expertise in digital media and technology, to use content and tech to engage with and entertain their target audiences, both online and in store (or in other real world locations). To do this I draw on my and my colleague’s expertise across the media, content, marketing, IP, ecommerce, technology, data and privacy legal practice areas, as well as my deep commercial and strategic understanding of digital media and technology, IP, rights and commercial business models.
