03 April 2017

Top 100 UK law firm Lewis Silkin LLP today announces the promotion of Alex Kelham to the firm’s partnership, effective 1 April.

Alex joined Lewis Silkin in 2013, and was made head of the firm’s Sports Business Group in 2014.  As a commercial and intellectual property lawyer, brands and marketing is at the heart of Alex’s work. In the sports industry specifically, she advises teams, federations, events, venues, brands, athletes and agencies on a diverse range of rights issues, from sponsorship, advertising issues, trade marks and image rights to all aspects of hosting sports events. Alex is a leading global expert on ambush marketing and the specialist IP and brand protection legislation implemented for major events.

Prior to joining Lewis Silkin, Alex spent seven years working with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games on brand protection work in relation to the 2012 Games. Alex was herself an elite sportswoman and medalled for England in swimming at the Commonwealth Games before pursuing a post-sport career in law. She is a non-executive director of British Swimming.

Ian Jeffery, Lewis Silkin partner and CEO, said:
“Alex is a real asset to the firm, providing not only top legal expertise to our sports sector clients, but an industry insider’s knowledge, experience and empathy that further enhances our offering and service. Coupled with this, her athlete’s ‘will to win’ has helped the Sports Business Group go from strength to strength and supported our wider ambitions and growth strategy for the firm. We are delighted to recognise Alex’s contribution and welcome her to the partnership.”

Alex Kelham, Lewis Silkin partner and head of the firm’s Sports Business Group, said:

“I’m incredibly proud to have been asked to join the partnership. Lewis Silkin is an amazing firm and I feel lucky to work alongside such great colleagues. Sport has always been my passion so I am privileged to be working with a diverse range of clients who are leaders in the industry. I’m looking forward to the next stage of my career and to continuing to build the firm’s already excellent credentials in sports business.”
