1889

Lewis Silkin is born in London to a family of poor Lithuanian refugees. Discrimination saw him lose out on a scholarship he’d won to Oxford, but he went on to become a solicitor, MP and then deputy leader of the House of Lords - inspiring our focus on social mobility, and the firm’s ethos of bravery and kindness.
